JOHN WRONG: greatest homerecordings 1997-1999

I don’t want to live in a world where songs like these can’t get a break! John Wrongs greatest homerecordings 1997-1999 is a selection from a body of work that spawned more than fifty songs. These songs were recorded on dictaphone and tape recorder at home during the hard years of 1997-1999. The instrumentation consisted of a cheap keyboard, homemade instruments and other assorted bits and pieces but mainly of an acoustic guitar, which – more often than not – lacked a couple of strings. All things considered – these songs are still multilayered and richly textured. Without the benefits of a 4-track (for example) John Wrong used to record the first guitar part on the dictaphone, then proceed to record the second guitar part and sing while the first recording played on the stereo in the background.

John Wrongs influences are evident and at the same time incorporated into a style that can only be defined as personal. While listening you will probably drop names like Cat Power, Smog and Lou Barlow. This set of songs is truly folk, punk and pop. They come without make-up to your doorstep and demand to be let into your main audience chamber.

That these songs still haunt me after almost a decade (back then they were recorded exclusively for friends and family) is evidence enough that they stand the test of time and deserve a wider audience.

This cd-r is available in two versions from svarta marknaden.
